Many leaks are at the joints where two ducts are connected (or not!).<\/li>\n<li>\u25cf Finding smaller leaks.\u00a0 Use caveman technology, put a ribbon on a stick. The ribbon will blow around when it&#8217;s near a leak.\u00a0 Or use a candle, and watch the flame flicker.<\/li>\n<li>\u25cf Check the connections at vents and registers to make<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0sure they are well-sealed where they meet the floors, walls, and ceiling.\u00a0 These are common locations to find leaks and disconnected ductwork.<\/li>\n<li>\u25cf Pressurize the ducts.\u00a0 A procedure performed by a qualified technician.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Reparing Leaks<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\u25cf Usually a combination of the proper tape and mastic sealant, be thorough.<\/li>\n<li>\u25cf New technology called Aeroseal.\u00a0 A non-toxic, aerosol mist is spayed into the interior of the ductwork.<strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Because ducts are found in ceilings, attics, basements and crawlspaces, some do it yourself repairs may be difficult.
